Managing Conflict

In today’s organisations as we allocate resources across multiple projects, juggle priorities and work with others whose styles may differ from ours, conflict seems unavoidable.  This session will explain the range of strategies you might use to resolve conflict and help you to apply the appropriate strategy in every situation.  This considered approach will enable you to reap the positives of disagreement (learning, creativity and preventing ‘group think’) without suffering the negatives of progress delays, damaged relationships and lack of support for decisions.

Selling Your Ideas

This session will help you to influence others and get your ideas accepted.  You will learn to assess whether a direct or indirect approach would be most effective and understand the critical skills required to use both styles effectively.  You will practice proven techniques and leave with clear structures for use in any influence situation.

Mind Mapping

Discover a more efficient and effective way of taking notes and preparing for meetings and presentations.  Let your brain be its brilliant self, helping you to think creatively and aiding your recall of crucial information.  Spend less time in meetings writing notes and more time listening, learning and influencing decisions.  This session will introduce the system of taking patterned notes and set you off on a new approach to using pen and paper.

Introduction to Creative Thinking

“Creativity is the ability to generate novel and useful ideas and solutions to everyday problems and challenges”.  You will learn how to think more creatively by following some simple rules and using a range of techniques.  The lively session will involve applying fun but effective creativity tools.

Advanced Creative Thinking

Building on the learning from the first Creative Thinking session, this session will add more advanced tools to the toolkit.  It will also explore how to develop a more creative environment within the workplace, where more staff will contribute improvement ideas and solutions to problems. (attendance on Introduction to Creative Thinking is a prerequisite for attending this session)

Introduction to Structured Leadership

In this session you will learn the four fundamental styles of leadership that will enable you to respond effectively in any situation.  You will learn how to diagnose which style is required and the behaviours that will make your use of each style more effective.

Applying Structured Leadership

In this session you will experience the results of effective and ineffective use of leadership styles and further develop your ability to flex your style to suit the situation. (attendance on Introduction to Structured Leadership is a prerequisite for attending this session)

Advanced Structured Leadership

In this session you will evaluate your personal strengths and preferences as a leader and consider any areas of development required.  You will also learn the step-by-step approach to using structured leadership to develop your staff to their full potential. (attendance on Introduction to Structured Leadership and Applying Structured Leadership are prerequisites to attending this session)

Give People a Good Listening To!

We know that feeling listened to is a key factor in job satisfaction.  This session will help you to apply good listening techniques to gain two important benefits as leaders and managers.  The first is that your staff will feel more motivated and satisfied with their work and the second is that you will have a more complete and accurate understanding of their issues and concerns so that you can lead and motivate them more effectively.

Questioning for Information

“He who asks the best questions is in control of the conversation”.  Questions are crucial management tools fulfilling a wide range of purposes, yet few of us take the time to consider how we use them.  This session will make you more aware of how to select the right question for the situation, whether you are interviewing, problem solving, coaching or influencing, and provide some tips on how to manage conversations effectively.  N.b. Linking this session with “Give Your People a Good Listening To!” forms a powerful learning experience.

Giving Feedback to Improve Performance

The art of giving feedback in a way that leads to improved performance and motivation, rather than defensiveness and de-motivation, is perhaps the most valuable but difficult skill of leadership.  This session will introduce guidelines and tips and provide the opportunity to practice applying them in a safe environment.

Preparing To Review Staff Performance

The performance review discussion can be a valuable and satisfying experience for both manager and staff member but all too often is seen to be a de-motivating waste of time.  This session will help you to prepare for these important conversations with your staff so that they provide real benefits to you, the individual and the organisation.  Based on solid research into the behaviours of successful performance managers, the session will provide guidelines on structuring the conversations and the critical leadership behaviours required to make them effective.
